From Glenn Reynolds' Instapundit blog

This was part of the "open thread" on the evening of Dec. 9th - https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/

UPDATE: A friend emails:

Thought experiment. There are five Democrat justices on the Supreme Court. There was a Democrat president who just ran for reelection. He supposedly lost, but virtually all Democrat voters believe that massive fraud in several Republican controlled states caused him to lose. Many Democrat attorneys general file a lawsuit in the US Supreme Court, essentially identical to the one that is pending now.

Does anyone believe for a second that those five Democrat justices wouldn’t do absolutely anything necessary to make sure the Democrat control of the presidency was maintained? Democrats care about power. Democrats do not care about process, or rules. Now we are being asked to be so meticulous about adhering to the rules, that we are to allow a laughably egregious fraud to succeed, and to permit our own throats to be cut by turning over the executive branch to the people who just committed the biggest political crime in history. I hope five US supreme court justices will show just a tiny bit of the creativity, to put it politely, which Democrat justices had when they, for example, found an imaginary abortion right in the US Constitution. We’ll see what happens.

How the Left views our political world in 2020

People on the political Left see things in a way that is the "polar opposite" of people on the Right. They have a completely different truth about the world we live in. Read this opinion piece written by Robert Reich (Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration) and you'll see what I mean.

Democrats Question Integrity of 2020 Election??? ...Whaaat??

Op-Ed: Our Current Crisis is Nothing Less than the Democrat Party’s War on America

This is an article from a newly discovered website called PROTESTIA. I don't yet know what to make of this website but here's what their about page says in part - "Protestia is a media outreach of Fellowship Baptist Church in Sidney, Montana, and dedicates itself to providing alternative Christian news in an age of widespread censorship. Protestia’s general direction and purpose is overseen by that local congregation’s leadership, while its day-to-day operations and media publishing is managed by the Gideon Knox Group, a consortium of individuals from various fields (religious, business, marketing, design, and legal) who work together to help Christian conservatives and grassroots activists articulate their message. Through their help, small churches are able still to have a huge impact and a global witness."

The Global Reset – Unplugged. “The Deep State” by Peter Koenig at globalresearch.ca

This is an interesting article worth a few moments of your time.

Here's the first couple of paragraphs - Imagine, you are living in a world that you are told is a democracy – and you may even believe it – but in fact your life and fate is in the hands of a few ultra-rich, ultra-powerful and ultra-inhuman oligarchs. They may be called Deep State, or simply the Beast, or anything else obscure or untraceable – it doesn’t matter. They are less than the 0.0001%.

For lack of a better expression, let’s call them for now “obscure individuals”.

These obscure individuals who pretend running our world have never been elected. We don’t need to name them. You will figure out who they are, and why they are famous, and some of them totally invisible. They have created structures, or organisms without any legal format. They are fully out of international legality. They are a forefront for the Beast. Maybe there are several competing Beasts. But they have the same objective: A New or One World Order (NWO, or OWO).

Good article from John Hinderaker at Powerline blog

Some interesting thoughts from John Hinderaker at Powerline blog.
His opening paragraph - "Revelations of recent years have expanded the range of the thinkable. Four years ago, I would have considered the idea that the Department of Justice, the FBI and the CIA would team up to swing a presidential election to their favored candidate, and failing that, would try to disable the incoming administration, a paranoid fantasy, the stuff of fiction. But it happened. And it was highly successful, due to the predictable behavior of the Democratic Party and its news branch at the New York Times, Washington Post, and so on."

I like Kurt Schlicter's commentary and this one is very good! Here's a little snippet - "Trump has the advantage in this race and this election is his to lose, but one weapon he has yet to unleash is the Reaganesque optimism that we, the normal, patriotic Americans who he can rely on, yearn for. Look around. Things are a mess, and the Democrats are doing everything they can to make them messier. They are holding onto their precious pangolin pandemic panic like Brian Stelter grips a pie, ferociously fighting to keep hope dying by denying our kids school and millions of us a livelihood, all to eek out a win in November...."

An Industry Of Untruth by Victor Davis Hanson

Another fine article by Victor Davis Hanson appears at the American Greatness website. Here is a sample -
"The truth is that the COVID-19 epidemic, the lockdown, and the rioting were seen by the Left, the media, and now the Democratic Party as a renewed effort in this election year to do what Robert Mueller, Ukraine, and impeachment had not—abort the presidency of Donald Trump, or make it impossible for him to be reelected."
And here's more - Consequently, the last two weeks, in succession we were told by the media that a noose was left in a NASCAR garage as a racist threat to NASCAR’s only major African-American driver, typical of Trump’s racist America; that Donald Trump, in dejection and self-incrimination, was soon to quit rather than face the humiliation of a landslide defeat in November; that the president knowingly rejected intelligence that the Russians were paying bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan, as part of his obeisance to Vladimir Putin; and that Trump went to Mount Rushmore to honor racist presidents and dishonor sacred Native American land.
All were not just lies, but respectively unimaginative and banal successors to similarly long ago discredited lies—the Jussie Smollett hoax, the “Trump never wished to be president in the first place” hoax, the Russian “collusion” hoax, and the hoax that Trump’s presence turns once esteemed monuments that prior presidents, most recently Barack Obama, visited into racist dog whistles."

2020 Election

I always find Conrad Black's commentary interesting. If he has a particular agenda, I cannot discern what it might be. Here is a recent article from the "Amercian Greatness" website about President Trump's prospects of getting re-elected in November. Here is the opening paragraph -
"The current speculation about a likely Joe Biden victory in the November presidential election ignores a number of extraordinary factors. Since the speculation is in the media and the media is overwhelmingly hostile to President Trump, there is a spontaneous urge to consider his declining fortunes in the polls as a vindication of both their professionalism and their prophetic talents. Their self-confidence is misplaced."

2020 Election

Here's more great commentary from Victor Davis Hanson with his current thoughts on the election this November.
" The old 2020 election was supposed to be about many familiar issues. It is not anymore.  Up until now, the candidates themselves would supposedly be the story in November. The left had cited Trump’s tweets and erratic firings as windows into his dark soul.

....The people’s energy, tranquilized by a two-month national quarantine and terror of the coronavirus, has suddenly exploded in both massive protests and silent seething at the lawlessness. The result is that for good or evil, the 2020 election is no longer really about Biden and Trump, Democratic or Republican policies, or progressive and conservative agendas.
No, it is now about America as it has been before May 2020 — always flawed, but constantly improving, and not perfect but far better than the alternatives — and what has now followed."

Is Trump Winning ?

Another of my favorite bloggers/writers is Kurt Schlichter who is a columnist at Townhall.com and today's column is one that made me feel better after reading.

Here's paragraph number 3 of his column -
The libs’ plan to win in November corresponds to Trump’s plan to crush them yet again. Skeptical? Consider this. In the five years since he rode down that escalator bringin’ hell with him, how many times have they come at Trump and won? Zero. He’s spent half a decade on the edge of doom and he’s still here. Why would you think that the walls are suddenly closing in now? You shouldn’t.

The Media Lies? Well... yes! Yes they do!

The left leaning media (TV & print) have been slanting the news for a very long time. I first noticed it in 1992 when Bill Clinton was running for President. While watching television news shows, I noticed all the stories about Clinton would be positive and the ones about George H. W. Bush would all have a subtle negativity to them. And now the so-called journalists don't even pretend to be unbiased.

"The Remains of an Administration" by Victor Davis Hanson

Yet another great commentary by Victor Davis Hanson, this article at National Review reminds us of how corrupt the Obama administration was....

Obama entered with a supermajority in the Senate and a large majority in the House, with the likelihood of remaking the Supreme Court. When he left eight years later, he had lost both houses of Congress, lost the Supreme Court for a generation, and lost more than 1,000 state and local offices. Once Obama discovered in his last year in office that the more he disappeared, the more the public liked the idea rather than the reality of Obama, his polls recovered. His designated successor, armed with Obama’s endorsement, a captive media, and a vast preponderance of money lost to outlier Donald Trump in the greatest upset in U.S. election history. Trump, remember, ran on being the antithesis to Barack Obama.

"First-Time Gun Buyers Explain How Coronavirus Changed Their Politics"

From the Washington Free Beacon, this story is very interesting.
Here's a snippet - "This has taken me, a law-abiding citizen with nary an unpaid parking ticket to my name, over a month," he told the Washington Free Beacon. "Meanwhile Joe Bad Guy has probably purchased several fully automatic AK-47s out of the back of an El Camino in a shady part of town with zero background checks."

Receipts reviewed by the Free Beacon show Kane first purchased a firearm on March 11 from Sportsman's Warehouse in Milpitas, Calif. Santa Clara County shut down the shop before Kane's 10-day waiting period was complete. No end date was given for the order, but a California law giving buyers just 30 days to pick up a gun remained in effect. Kane was stuck in a legal limbo that only grew worse.
Unable to do business, the store went belly-up in May. Kane had no way to pick up his gun. He started the process over again at another store in a neighboring county. He returned home with a Springfield XD 9mm and a biometric safe on April 29, 50 days after he first passed a background check and paid for a gun.
"I'm seriously thinking of running for office or something," Kane said. "This state's gun laws are insane."

More commentary from Victor Davis Hanson

One of my favorite writers, Mr. Hanson explains politics and culture like no one else. His latest article at PJ Media, talks about the divide between "red-state & blue-state" America....

Red- and blue-state America was already divided before the coronavirus epidemic hit. Globalization had enriched the East Coast and West Coast corridors but hollowed out much in between.
The traditional values of small towns and rural counties were increasingly at odds with postmodern lifestyles in the cities.
There were, of course, traditionalists in blue states. And lots of progressives live in red states. But people increasingly self-segregate to where they feel at home and where politics, jobs, and culture reflect their tastes.
The ensuing left/right, liberal/conservative, Democrat/Republican divide not only intensified in the 21st century, but it also took on a dangerous geographical separatism.
The coasts vs. the interior divide reflects two Americas — often in a manner similar to the old Mason-Dixon line that geographically split the U.S. for roughly a century.
As always, it's great writing. Read it all!

"The Three Blows to the New World Order"

Here's an interesting article by Bruce Thornton at Frontpage Mag. It starts off with this paragraph...
Nearly 30 years ago the Cold War ended with the collapse of the Soviet Empire. Communism, the last challenge to the Western paradigm of liberal democracy and free trade, disappeared, defeated by the same free-world alliance that had vanquished earlier totalitarian foes like fascism and Nazism. History understood not as events but as a tournament of conflicting socio-politico-economic orders had ended. A “new world order,” over a century in the making, finally had won.

Check out this article over at American Greatness. Here's a sample - "...For Democrats, this is what it’s come to: A last attempt to drive down support for Trump by doing everything they can to heighten public fear of the coronavirus and extend for as long as possible the resulting economic disruption.
As demands to open businesses increase in states around the country, Democrats’ target date for getting Americans back to work is 18 months from now. By which time, they hope, Trump’s plan to restart the economy will have backfired, and they’ll be running what’s left of the country, Green New Deal-style."

A little snippet....
The Note That Indicts the FBI
It’s one of the handwritten notes that has shown beyond doubt that Flynn was personally targeted, just to get rid of him.
The barely legible scrawl reads: “What’s our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute or get him fired?”

129 Media Mistakes in the Trump Era: The Definitive List - from Sharyl Attkisson

Great article on Sharyl Attkisson's website about all some of the mistakes made by the media about President Trump.
Here's the first three...

1. Aug. 2016-Nov. 2016:

The New York Post published modeling photos of Trump's wife Melania and reported they were taken in 1995. Various news outlets relied on that date to imply that Melania, an immigrant, had violated her visa status. But the media got the date wrong. Politico was among the news agencies that later issued a photo date correction.

2. Oct. 1, 2016:

The New York Times and other media widely suggested or implied that Trump had not paid income taxes for 18 years. Later, tax return pages leaked to MSNBC ultimately showed that Trump actually paid a higher rate than Democrats Bernie Sanders and President Obama.

3. Oct. 18, 2016:

In a Washington Post piece not labelled opinion or analysis, Stuart Rothenberg reported that Trump's path to an electoral college victory was nonexistent

"Donald Trump's Been Saying The Same Thing For 30 Years"

Very interesting article from January, 2017 on NPR's website.

"For decades, Donald Trump both toyed with and coyly denied any interest in pursuing the presidency — until his expectation-shattering campaign of the 2016 election.
But if you go back and watch old clips — and by old, we mean decades-old — you hear a young Donald Trump sounding very much like the current Trump. Common themes include his view that trade wasn't fair, that the world has long laughed at America and countries have taken advantage of U.S. generosity while refusing to pay their "fair share" for all the U.S. does globally."
Several video clips within the article....

Trump Derangement Syndrome

I thought Bush Derangement Syndrome was bad, but it was nothing compared to what's been happening since November 9, 2016. And Trump Derangement Syndrome just keeps getting worse. Here's an article at Bookworm Room blog that expresses it better than I can.

An excerpt - "So far, all I’ve given you are my impressions about leftism and my assurances that people I know really do say the things I allege that they say. Now’s the part where I simply quote the professional leftists, the columnists and comics, for proof that their hatred for Trump is no longer a rational thing. The difference between them and my friends is that the professionals express their Derangement more elegantly, going beyond mere howls and obscenities.

It’s Time for the President to Address Our Economic Relaunch - Conrad Black

"It is clear that the time is approaching that will be absolutely decisive for this presidency and for the country’s near-term future. The president will have to decide on an economic relaunch plan, and this will make or break him and his opponents.
The vast amount of posturing and accusatory liberties that already surpass what is normal in even the most contentious of election years will be of no account, depending on the outcome of the president’s decision of when and how to conduct the United States back to normal life. The Democrats have advocated a lengthy shutdown, leaving plenty of room to impute to them political as well as public health motives."
Those are the first two paragraphs of this article by Conrad Black at American Greatness.

Is America a Roaring Giant or a Crying Baby?

Another outstanding article from Victor Davis Hanson -

".... As we struggle to defeat the coronavirus, an aroused America is talking grandly of restructuring the U.S. economy.
Politicians promise that major industries -- pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, rare earths, military technologies -- will return home to create millions of new jobs and better protect the population in times of crisis."

"A WARTIME PRESIDENT" is the title of an article at Issues & Insights.   Here is the last paragraph of the article - "President Trump is leading from the front, addressing the American people every day, reminiscent of Roosevelt’s fireside chats during the depths of the Depression. Trump is fighting a war against this virus and for our economy. He has the mettle, the experience, and the patriotism that a wartime president must have to win. With him in charge, we will win."

"The case for reopening the country now" by Roger Kimball

This article by Roger Kimball at Spectator.us (The Spectator) asks questions that are on a lot of people's minds right now.

"More and more people, I suspect, are padding about muttering lines from Psalm 13: ‘How long, O Lord,…How long must I take counsel in my soul/ and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?’

Corona Meltdowns by Victor D. Hanson

Another fine article from Victor Davis Hanson -

Is the bad and self-negating behavior of so many of Trump’s enemies setting him up for an even more impressive victory in the fall?

"As the coronavirus outbreak begins to reach its zenith, it remains unclear whether the measures taken to stem its tide will prove sufficient, insufficient, or an overreaction. What is certain, however, is that a number of individuals and entities have behaved shamefully and demonstrated no capacity for leadership or usefulness in this moment."  ........

"Trump’s Leadership in Pandemic Paves Way to Reelection"

Conrad Black always has an interesting perspective on American politics and this coronavirus is as much of a political problem for President Trump as it is a health emergency. Here is Black's latest article on the President and the virus.

From the article - "One of the characteristics of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States is its unique political explosiveness. Victor D. Hanson - The Virus is Not Invincible, But It’s Exposing Who’s Irreplaceable

Another fine article from Victor Davis Hanson about how the coronavirus is showing who's really important in our society. Not the academics or loudmouth politicians, but the farmers, truckers or our doctors & nurses.
His commentary begins - "In all the gloom and doom, and media-driven nihilism, there is actually an array of good news. As many predicted, as testing spreads, and we get a better idea of the actual number and nature of cases, the death rate from coronavirus slowly but also seems to steadily decline."

A few words about California - "However, a rare “March Miracle” has just seen the Sierra Nevada Mountains suddenly receive 4-6 feet of snow that covers dry ground (it is still snowing as I write this). And the later the snow, the better the spring runoff."

International rivals - "Like it or not, national rivalries continue at a time of plague. Our three greatest rivals, China, Russia, and Iran are all faring far worse than are we in ways that transcend the virus."

Victor Davis Hanson Perspective

I have always admired Victor Davis Hanson's skill as a writer and find that I agree most of the time with his opinions. I especially think he is correct in his most recent article about the the current state of affairs here in the USA. Here are some excerpts -
"When the virus peters out and the panic fades, China may be permanently rebranded and recalibrated by the world at large. Its trading partners will trust it far less...
In sum, China’s mercantile system will take a hit. The only country that can match and surpass its economic output, the United States, will be the long-term beneficiary as investors and businesses look away from Beijing to a more transparent partner....
So the public could look forward to a rebounding late summer economy to come fueled by cheap gas, low interest, relief that COVID-19 is manageable, key preparations of pharmaceutical industries to return to the United States and realize that an already robust America can recover quickly from the virus and its associated panic.
Again, the key is not to damn the panic over the virus, but to understand and accept it—while reassuring Americans that all that can be done is being done, and what downturns they now experience will soon be overshadowed by even more jobs and greater economic expansion and wealth creation to come.
We sometimes forget, in legitimate fears of the coronavirus, that every action prompts a reaction and the massive curtailments of the U.S. economy can have as many health consequences as the virus itself—if millions lose income and jobs, become depressed in self-isolation, increase smoking, and drug and alcohol use, and postpone out of fear necessary buying and visits to doctors and hospitals for chronic and serious medical conditions unrelated to the virus.
In addition, it is not wrong to remind the public that current but once caricatured policies of secure borders, targeted travel bans, demands for transparency and symmetry from major U.S. trading partners, recalibration with China, and a return of manufacturing and assembly of key U.S. industries, from high-technology to pharmaceuticals, was long overdue—and must continue to ensure U.S. security and the long-term health of its people.
Let us relearn that at times of crisis our country is singularly resilient and self-sufficient, and we have only ourselves to save ourselves, or as FDR said in 1932 at the height of the Great Depression, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

Coronavirus #4

Don Surber: We didn't need an office of pandemics: Beth Cameron, an expert in global health security and biodefense, complained in the Washington Post, "I ran the White House pandemic ...
Despite hysterical press reports, the USA is doing better than anyone. We have 6.9 cases per million people. Italy has 292.1, Norway has 183.7, Denmark has 138.8, Switzerland has 131.6, Spain has 111.9, and Sweden has 80.6, all well above Red China's 56.2.

Gasoline prices in the next few months

I've been paying around $2.00 per gallon for gasoline for several weeks now and the price may go a bit lower according to this article from cnbc.com.  Bullet points from the article are:
  • Oil prices are down 30% for the year as the new coronavirus, COVID-19, slashes global demand forecasts.
  • With previously agreed OPEC+ production cuts expiring at the end of March, Saudi Arabia and Russia can theoretically pump as much crude as they want.
  • International and U.S. oil benchmarks plummeted to multiyear lows on Friday, with Brent crude closing at $45.27, down more than 9%, and West Texas Intermediate down more than 10%.
Lower oil prices are not great for oil companies and their employees, but lower fuel prices are good for most other people. It's going to be interesting to see how the U.S. economy reacts over the next few months to the effects of the corona virus. Maybe lower fuel prices will "soften the blow" of the virus.

Another coronavirus article

Here's another article, and a very good one, about the coronavirus. A tidbit from the article - "Clearly, this press conference was a masterful response by Trump to gain control of the flow of facts and provide full information to the American public without the distortions of media infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome."

And another - "The means that the virus isn’t quite as deadly as many have feared. Factors that could work in our favor include great sanitation, access to excellent medical care, and good diet…all of which play a role in recovering from illness."  Click here for the full article.

Trump puts Vice President Mike Pence in charge of coronavirus response, says nation is 'very ready'

From a USA Today article - "Lawmakers from both parties expressed concern that the administration isn’t doing enough to prepare for a possible U.S. outbreak of the virus that has spawned more than 80,000 cases around the world, including 59 confirmed cases in the USA."

More from the same article - “We're better prepared than anybody else. It doesn't mean you're going to escape through this with absolutely no impact,” said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., who sits on the House Appropriations Committee.

The Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy

The Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy: The phrase "right-wing extremist" has become part of the national lexicon, yet for some strange reason, we never hear "left-wing extremist" to describe the liberal crazies in Antifa and BAMN, just two examples of what liberal extremism looks like — bloody.  Why is that?  Why do the media pretend the lunatics on the left don't exist?

Coronavirus & the economy

Acccording to Larry Kudlow the coronavirus is certainly a "human tragedy", but the United States is in "excellent shape" financially. Kudlow appeared on CNBC today in an interview you can view here. He says the U.S. has contained the virus, but how does he or anyone else, really know? Hmm?
Oh, and the stock market has dropped about 1700 points over the last two days. Ouch!

How Trump Made the Federal Courts Blink

How Trump Made the Federal Courts Blink:
"A quick back-and-forth occurred over the last week between President Trump and the nation's federal judges. After lying to Attorney General Barr about seeking a minimum sentence, the prosecutors in the Roger Stone case (including two from the Mueller Crew) entered a harsh sentencing recommendation that he serve a decade behind bars for lying to Congress." The Coronavirus Outbreak

The coronavirus, or "COVID-19", is scary and concerns me a little bit. Here is an article from the Sydney Morning Herald that is written from a different point of view than most United States news outlets.

"Trump Does The Unthinkable"

This is from a July 2016 column by Liz Crokin on the Townhall website. It's an article about Donald Trump's generosity, siting examples beginning in 1986. And the column has links to archived news articles about the examples she gives. Very interesting....

Trump and Ukraine

Following the theme of Victor Davis Hanson's article, here's another from the American Greatness blog by Matthew Boose -
Trump's Angry and True Victory Speech  Very interesting!

"At one point, Trump asked a very sensible question about military aid to Ukraine: Why is the United States “always the sucker?” Why was America giving millions in aid to Ukraine in the first place, and why was a temporary hold on that aid made out to be an act of treason? This is the kind of nonsense that consumes the political establishment."

And remember what Joe Biden said about a certain prosecutor in Ukraine in 2018.
